What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit them. They let a website remember things about you, like whether you’re signed in, what language you prefer, or what’s in your shopping cart, between page loads and between visits.
Cookies are set by the website you’re visiting (“first-party cookies”) or by services embedded in that website such as payment gateways, analytics tools, or content delivery networks (“third-party cookies”). Similar technologies, local storage, session storage, web beacons, pixels, and SDKs, work the same way for the purposes of this policy.
How we use cookies
Mercemur uses cookies to operate the platform you’re using, whether you’re a visitor browsing mercemur.com, a merchant logged into your admin dashboard, or a customer shopping on a merchant’s storefront. Specifically, cookies help us:
- Keep you signed in across pages and sessions
- Remember your language, region, and currency preferences
- Secure your account against cross-site request forgery and session hijacking
- Measure which pages and features are used so we can improve them
- Process payments through integrated payment gateways
- Deliver storefront assets quickly through our content delivery network
Types of cookies we use
We group cookies into four categories based on what they do:
Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the platform to work. They handle things like keeping you signed in, remembering what you’ve put in your cart, balancing traffic across our servers, and protecting against fraud. You can’t disable these cookies without breaking core functionality of the site.
- Authentication (session tokens, sign-in state)
- CSRF protection tokens
- Load balancing and routing
- Cart and checkout state
- Security flags and fraud detection
Performance and analytics cookies
These help us understand how visitors use Mercemur so we can improve it, for example, which pages people spend time on, where they come from, and which features they use. The information is aggregated and does not directly identify any individual.
- Google Analytics (aggregated page-level usage)
- Internal product analytics (feature engagement)
- Error monitoring (so we can detect and fix crashes faster)
Functional cookies
These remember choices you’ve made to personalize your experience. Disabling them means you’ll be treated as a brand-new visitor every time.
- Language and region preferences
- Currency selection
- Theme and display preferences (e.g., dark mode)
- Dismissed banners and onboarding hints
Marketing cookies
If a merchant running a storefront on Mercemur chooses to enable advertising or retargeting integrations, those tools may set marketing cookies on that storefront. Mercemur itself does not run advertising cookies on mercemur.com at this time. Each merchant is responsible for disclosing any marketing cookies they enable on their own storefront via their own cookie notice.
Third-party cookies and services
Some cookies are set by third-party services we integrate to deliver the platform. Each service is governed by its own privacy policy, linked below.
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Measures how visitors use Mercemur so we can improve the product. | View policy ↗ |
| Stripe | Processes payments for merchants who enable Stripe checkout, and for Mercemur subscription billing. | View policy ↗ |
| Razorpay | Processes payments for merchants operating in India who enable Razorpay checkout. | View policy ↗ |
| DoDo Payments | Processes international payments for merchants who enable DoDo checkout. | View policy ↗ |
| ShipEngine | Calculates shipping rates and generates shipping labels for merchants who enable shipping integrations. | View policy ↗ |
| Cloudflare | Provides content delivery, DDoS protection, and bot mitigation for Mercemur-hosted domains. | View policy ↗ |
How long will cookies remain on your device?
Cookies have different lifespans depending on what they do:
- Session cookies, deleted automatically when you close your browser. Used for things like signed-in state and cart contents.
- Persistent cookies, stay on your device for a set period (from a few days up to two years, depending on purpose) or until you delete them. Used for things like “keep me signed in”, language preference, and analytics.
How to control cookies
You can control and delete cookies from your browser’s settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent parts of Mercemur from working, you won’t be able to sign in, complete checkout, or stay on the site.

- Cookie settings in Firefox ↗
- Cookie settings in Safari ↗
- Cookie settings in Microsoft Edge ↗

Do Not Track signals
Some browsers let you send a “Do Not Track” signal to websites. There is no universally accepted standard for how websites should respond to that signal, so we don’t currently respond to it. You can control tracking using the browser and third-party settings described above.
Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the services we use, applicable law, or how we operate. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes, we’ll also post a notice on the site or email account holders.
